Christmas, Alabama

by Susan Sands

Publication Date: October 26, 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Holiday

Photographer Rachel Prudhomme has finally settled in Ministry, Alabama. Sure, the pace is slower, and she’s had her heart blessed more times than she can count, but putting down her roots where her family is feels right, if only the town’s new doctor, and now neighbor, weren’t so hot and constantly igniting her dreams. How can she keep her vow to steer clear of men when he keeps sauntering across her path?

My Rating:

Favorite Quotes:

The best you can expect as a lovely single woman is open hostility from the other single women and their mommas until you find a man and get yourself off the market.

“There aren’t a lot of unattached men around here that have all the desired qualities.”  Like a decent job and most of their teeth.

You’re blushing like an old maid. Must be a pretty hot memory to bring that kind of red to your cheeks.

My Review:

I enjoyed this refreshingly sweet and entertaining story from start to finish.  Each new character in this quirky small town was colorfully described in vivid detail in an amusing manner that frequently brought a smile to my face.  The main players were intriguing and endearing, although Rachel was initially rather prickly and aloof.  Ministry, Alabama sounds like a unique and appealing community populated with a wide assortment of odd and lively personalities.  Ms. Sand’s writing was easy to follow, well-appointed, and flowed with a smooth elegance that kept me tethered to my Kindle.  I plan to pick up the previous installments to further acquaint myself with this enticing and engaging group of citizens.

My Review:

I was curious as to how this series would wrap up and enjoyed the sweet conclusion that Banishing brought to the Silent Cove Trilogy.  The premise was interesting although the story evolved ever so slowly much like the lightning pace of a terrapin.   I enjoyed the thoughtful details and emotive descriptions, but my favorite thing about this installment was the kind and gentle character of Jack.

Favorite Quotes:

I’ve never feared dying. Not living has always been my biggest fear.

That’s all it is, Charlotte… Talk. They really just like baby-making practice.

Although the patch on the front of her “property of” vest says Queen B. I assume the B stands for bitch. And I don’t think my assumption would offend her one bit.

You give me too much credit. I’m not that deep.

You light up my whole world, Charlotte. You’re the something I was missing and didn’t think I’d ever find. Anything that makes you happy, I want you to have.

My Review:

I have quickly forgiven Ms. Jones Lake for her abandonment and heinous cliffhanger at the end of Beyond Reckless, as she has more than redeemed herself with this deliciously written, deviously plotted, and well-crafted conclusion to Teller’s duet with Beyond Reason.  While I was gleefully entertained by both books, I adored Beyond Reason and the engaging storylines of this complicated couple.  I was staggered by Teller’s sweetness and gentle and thoughtful nature.  Ms. Jones Lake packed her cleverly constructed tale with entertaining banter, clever observational humor, amusing exchanges, cringing-worthy violence, twisted backstories, intriguing and suspenseful story threads, heart-breaking disappointments, and volcanically hot and erotic sensuality.  I particularly enjoyed the visual of the large, foul-mouthed, heavily tatted bikers attending a glitter-filled unicorn-themed birthday party, as well as their willingness to create a fairy wonderland in the woods to set a romantic scene.  I was quite taken with how affectionate and respectful they were of their life partners, sigh, but of course, it was fiction after all ;)
