Caleb Harris devotes his life to serve and protect his small North Carolina town, but once the badge comes off, he does little to protect the hearts of women. Everything he thought he knew about crime and women is tested when a knock on the door brings him face to face with the last person he ever wanted to see.
Determined to break free of the rumors surrounding her past, Angela Butler abandons her small town, chasing a fresh start. When being in the wrong place at the wrong time makes her a target of the drug cartel, she has no choice but to go back to the world she tried so hard to forget.

Favorite Quotes:
“I loved God,
but according to her, anything short of becoming a missionary was not
considered God’s work. I was certainly
no missionary. I didn’t even like that
position.”
“I saw Tracy
here almost daily and I’d always wanted to ask her out, but I also liked free
coffee. One thing was certain, if I
asked her out, I’d never get free coffee again.”
“I was sure
hormones had come into play. It was the
only explanation for why she kept looking at me like I was a second helping of
pecan pie.”
“There isn’t a
word strong enough to tell you how I feel.
I love you. I adore you. I cherish you. I worship you. My life was nothing until God gave me
you. No one will ever take that away
from me.”
“After all the
years I’d known her, it turned out that I never really knew her; I never knew
what she was fully capable of. I’d spent
so many years without her. Now I wanted
to spend the rest of my life absorbing every detail of her.”
“This is your
life wifey. The preacher said so two
weeks ago.”
My Review:
I love this
group of friends and was surprised I found myself aligned with Angie and
antagonized at Tom – I mean… come on - Angie?
Of all people! But - she was not
who I thought she was, and I yet I am so very happy to be wrong. The story was full of surprises, wry humor,
intrigue, and suspense. I adore Jaycee
Ford and am already looking forward to her next book.
