The Hope That Starts Review

Series: Double Blind Study
Book: The Hope That Starts
Author: Heidi Hutchinson

Book Synopsis:
If there's one thing Zelda Fitzpatrick is good at, it's fandom. She can out-geek the geekiest. Her devotion knows no bounds. Her love is true, her motives pure. Oh, and she's also a talented freelance photographer, newly hired to go on the road with one of her favorite bands, Double Blind Study. All she has to do is not ruin this opportunity with her nerdy references (which are in abundance) or her devout klutziness. And she probably shouldn't fall madly in love with lead guitarist, Harrison O'Neil... who is taken. Unfortunately.

Book Review:
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As a blogger you come across a lot of different kinds of books. Many different genres, many different writing styles. You get asked to review great books, and then you get asked to review the mediocre to the sometimes sadly not too great at all books.
Probably one of the best series I have ever been asked to review, this installment of the Double Blind Study series is another Medal of Honor to the series. Fantastically written, my favorite characters all join together yet again as we follow the story of Harrison. He's one of my favorite characters and I fell in love with him more and more as the story progressed. I fan girled at references throughout the entire book. With a twist that completely knocked me on my behind (like I walked into a wall while I was reading it and I fell on my behind), I was hooked in from beginning to end. I think I have already found my favorite read of 2015, I know it just started but sometimes you just know.

Favorite Quotes:

“Harrison is about to expire from hunger. How are you feeling?”

“Don't ever be ashamed of who you are. Be exactly who you are. Be unapologetically you. No, not everyone is going to celebrate that with you. Some people will try to hurt you and tear you down, that can't be helped. In fact, that'll happen no matter what. So you might as well be exactly who you're supposed to be, and forget the ugly things people say.”

“I haven't seen a lot of groupies on the tour. What's that all about?” “I think Kendra Tasers them on sight—”

“I thought that love was just something we made up to scare away the dark.”

“I think that if the world were to run out of sugar, Zelda would be the first to die.”

“I can't see the stars when I'm in the city, never could. But I know they're there. They're always there. They shine and burn and fall... just like us.”

TECTONIC

Synopsis:

No matter how solid something seems, if enough pressure is applied, hearts and lives will shift. Shane Brookings, passionate surfer and accomplished athlete, was not a rock star, as much as he tried to represent himself as one throughout most of his adulthood. Mostly, Shane had always been kind of a jackass. A talented jackass, but still. So it really came as no surprise to him that the only two women he had seen a future with, chose actual rock stars to hitch themselves to. Feeling cold and hollow, he returned to California to focus on growing his brand. Determined to now stay serious about his life choices, he never anticipated Greta O'Neil's blatant shove into his life. Greta O'Neil, avid artist, surfer chick, and baby sister to a rock star, had a life that was anything but boring. Having a knack for pulling sad men out of their funk, she sets her talents on Shane Brookings. She has no intention of breaking her rules, which include getting too close, letting him in, and accidentally falling for the guy. But Shane is not like her other projects. Not only is he built like a Greek god, he's hardworking, passionate, clever and heroic. (Not that he believes any of those things about himself.) The rules she has so firmly set down to protect herself, are more than shaken up with Shane's every push into her life. Even as they both compromise to make room in their hearts for the other, outside forces put pressure on their burgeoning relationship. Shane's dream is put into jeopardy, ex-lovers surface at the worst moments, and their own faults threaten to violently tear them apart.

Synopsis:

Mike Osborn woke up in a hospital in Germany three years ago. He was still breathing. They had saved him. Double Blind Study has been through every rock and roll cliché ever contrived. When their drummer nearly dies from a drug overdose, everything changes. Life becomes important again. Living becomes important again. No one knows that better than Mike. So why does he feel like even though he's breathing and he's happy, his heart isn't beating the way it should be? Maybe it never did. When Mike meets Clarke Matthews for the first time, he knows he should stay away. He knows too much about her and what she's been through. He knows that he's not the one who should still be here. But for the first time, his heart has found another rhythm that matches its own. Every beat reveals new colors exploding in his darkness. Mike's been living life raw, unplugged. He's close to a reckoning. When it all comes apart, and he's faced with every mistake he's ever made, will the black win out and wash away the color that he's found? Or will the steady drum of a healthy pulse finally push the black away for good?

About The Author:
author pic

Heidi Hutchinson was born in South Dakota and raised the exact right distance away from the Black Hills. She had an overactive imagination very early on, and wasted no time in getting most of her friends in trouble due to her unrealistic and completely ridiculous ideas. Seeing as she was so lazy and also afraid people would think she was bonkers, she didn't write down any of the story lines that played out in her daydreams. During her high school years, she took pen to paper and filled more notebooks than she is proud of with angsty, depressing, self-depreciating poetry. This led to her writing down more things: notes, ideas, character bios, plot twists that had no plot yet to twist. After years of cleaning up her own scraps of imagination with nothing solid to hold on to, she sat down and wrote the story that had been in her head the longest. Fueled by coffee and her unwavering and perfectly normal devotion to Dave Grohl, she discovered a writer living inside of her. She still lives in the Midwest, though not as close to the Black Hills as she would prefer, with her alarmingly handsome husband and their fearless child. They eat more pizza than God intended and she listens to her music the same way she lives: loudly.

Tectonic - Heidi Hutchinson Review

22846226
Series: Double Blind Study
Book: Tectonic
Author: Heidi Hutchinson

Book Review:
Heidi has done it again. Looking back, I hated Shane in book one, completely and totally wanted him to fall off his snowboard and break his leg or something. By the time book two came around I was warming up to him and now book three has blown away all hostility of Shane and I'm a little sad I didn't claim him from the beginning. With her literary prowess Heidi has constructed a fabulous third installment in the DBS series. I felt for the characters, I felt their joy, their jealousy, their undeniable love, and of course their anger at Harmony (now I want her to break her leg). The character development goes beyond that of which is necessary making the characters very real and believable to me, making me love them all the more. I am going to sit and pretend to patiently wait to get my hands on the next book as I actually march around my house frantically until I get it.

 Favorite Quotes:
"'They have complimentary muffins in the common room,' Shane jerked his thumb over his shoulder.
'He already got those,' Blake said, not standing as well.
 'All of them?' Shane asked.
'Stop making me sound like a bear, there were only four muffins left,' Harrison said."

"Her dad said she drove like traffic laws were more of a guideline"

"'What hurts?'
'My feelings. Why do you keep stealing my chips?'"

"Thats what we do, as humans. We focus on the flaws and think that's all we are. But your faults are so small in comparison to the man you are as a whole."

"But there was always something missing from Harmony. Shane's eyes ran over her, trying to pinpoint what it was. Maybe her soul?"

"We can't make Harrison wait for food or he'll dissolve."

"'Macho bossy?' he asked.
'Yeah, you know, when you get all pushy and demanding and I give in because you're super hot, not because I agree with you. Which for the record, does not bode well for me in the future if we keep this thing going and all that jazz. Either you're gonna have to figure out how to make yourself less attractive, or I'm going to have to fight with you from another room. Why are you laughing at me?"

Book Review:
Heidi has not let me down with the next installment in my favorite series about a band I have read thus far in my life, and I have read quite a few! My favorite band mates are back, with a couple of new characters and older ones coming into the spotlight more. Romance buds, blooms and dies, secrets about the past are revealed and promises are broken again and again. I wasn't sure how much my heart could take, sitting there waiting for the happy ending. I kept checking how much percent I had left in the book in anticipation for what I would hope would be an ending that woud satisfy me, and satisy me it did. The characters are just as lovable as before, even more so as we learn more and more about Double Blind Study's members. My crush on Luke is still here (married or not I want him), and I opened my heart to add other characters to my heart break list. I don't know how to put into words what I read, I just know it's amazing and no combination of 26 letters can really capture how I feel about this amazing book. The perfect blend of love, loss, hope, repeat (that's a great song by the way, not in the book but I feel like it kind of describes this book for me).I want book three, I want it now!!

Favorite Quotes:

"As many times as you went wild as a prairie fire, Blake was the cloud burst that kept you from burning alive."

"Sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone in order to see that you're capable of being amazing. And sometimes you have to be pushed."

"'She's got a wild side that's unpredictable.' Sway said over his shoulder.
Blake chuckled. 'You never spent more than five minutes with her. How would you even know that?'
'Because she's the only woman I've ever seen bring you to your knees. And you're the meanest sonofabitch I know.'"

"He'd reached the point where his heart hurt so bad he was convinced that it was a smoldering pule of ashes and his lungs were choking on the smoke."

"'Love isn't about deserving,' Triny countered. 'If that were the case, none of us would be able to experience it. It's a gift greater than we can understand. It's simply our job to obey it."

"'Promises are just words, anyone can make them. The actions of that promise is what matters.'
'Shit. You just went philosphical on us, didn't you? PLease tell me you didn't join a cult."

"That's what you do when you love someone. You let them follow teir dreams, because they're bound to come back, and if they don't - at last you'll have a rather bitter section of your best man speech at their wedding."

"Love doesn't follow the logical progression of time. It doesn't get old or weary. It doesn't quietly slip out the door one night while you're sleeping, leaving you free to love someone new. It's the fire that keeps you warm, it's the light that keeps you hoping, it's the star that guides you home."

All in All:
Another amazing installment in a series with so many potential directions it makes my head spin. I want to see every single on of those, so get ready for some serious writing Heidi!

Book Review:
If you're here looking for an amazing romance novel that will simply blow you away, you've come to the right review.
I fell in love with this book before I was even 20% in. There was no, I'm hesitant about how much I like this, or oh well I guess it'll pick up later on or I'll understand what the heck is going on later. Nope, none of that. It was pure beauty from the beginning to end, as though the goddess of words had born these words and channeled them onto the page through Heidi. If that's he case then blessed be to the word Goddess because she sure knows what she is doing. If this had nothing supernatural and otherworldly to do with it, then Heidi please be my writing mentor because there is no way I'll be able to compete with something like this when it's time for me to publish my first book. Ok, seriously, now to really review the book.
The characters were amazing, funny, sweet, sassy, guarded. Alive. It was like I knew them in real life, as though they had become a part of me and I apart of them. I fell in love with the characters more and more as I followed them along, loving every moment and savoring every word and phrase until I turned the last page. The plot was great, throwing two of my favorite things together, romance and music. She didn't muddle them up, drowning one in in the other. No, she brought both of them center stage, allowing them to rock out together.
I was on my toes for a lot of the book. I thought one thing was going to happen but it didn't, or something completely different happened and I freaked out (I literally freaking out ask my mom I was yelling and waving my hands around like it was no ones business). If there is one thing I love, love LOVE, is being on my toes reading a book. The excitement of discovering new things about our characters, the feelings that ran through me every turn of the page, it was indescribable.
It isn't a typical music related romance either, throw in some snow, snowboards, the Olympics, the children of Satan (trust when I say you will understand far too well what I mean by that once you read this book), and so much more that I cannot even begin list, and you've picked up Learn To Fly.

Favorite Quotes:

"She had the kind of beauty that reminded Luke of sunsets and mountain vistas. Natural, wild and dangerous."

"'Sorry he can be pushy with pretty girls.'
'With girls in general.' Blake who was sitting ahead of Lenny, snorted.
'I resent that,' Sway defended as he sank into Luke's empty chair. 'I have never hit on an ugly girl.'
'Good job dude, I'm sure that little statement will convince her that you are, in no way, a pig.'"

"The real kicked for him wasn't his physical attraction towards her, though it didn't help matters. Nope, that's not what had him confused and upside down. It was the unpredicted avidity to crack open his chest cavity and show her everything. Invite her to climb inside his mess of a life and add some beauty to it."

"'Sometimes I get scared.' He winked at Mike. 'There could be bears out there.' Forward.
'Oh yeah,' Mike verified. 'Luke picks up wild animals like nobody's business.'"

"'But I run with a purpose, it's not a fashion show for me. I plan on looking ugly and unkempt.'
'Good, better to scare away the bears.'"

"'Thanks Mama,' Blake hugged her shoulders. 'You made me feel like a man and kicked my ass at the same time.'"

"If I can't have heroin on the bus then the devil sure as hell shouldn't be allowed either."

"'You look like sunshine this morning,' Carl eyed her suspiciously. 'You didn't kill Ashton by any chance did you?'
'Not yet,' she said with a lopsided grin.'
'That woman makes my skin crawl.' Carl took a sip of coffee.
'Are we sure she's even human? I mean, isn't there a separate classification for pure evil?'"

"'My coffee angel' Car greeted Lenny as she handed him a cup of steaming coffee she had bought with her from the diner. 'I thought you might forget since the plans were a little different.'
'I could never forget you, old man,' she flashed a smile. 'How did it go?' Lenny asked, she'd been slightly concerned for Carl's safety once Ashton found out they had ditched her.
'I think she put a hex on me.'"

"'I like your spray tan. What shade is that? Overcooked yam?"

"'Geez, ma, you think you got enough pies?' ... 'I hope so,' Kelli answered seriously, eyeballing the tower of pies arranged on a tiered pie stand. 'We ran out last year, you know. It was awful, your father cried'"

"'Sway, you really would screw anything, wouldn't you? You have no standards.' Ashton said with disgust.
'Thats not true' Sway said sweetly, pushing his long stringy hair out of his face. 'I can honestly say that I have never wanted to bag you.'"

"'Pleased to meet you Tyler,' Duke said and then asked, 'what's your mom's name?'
'Mom.'"

"But rock stars fall in love all the time, she reminded herself. That's how they make such great music."

"Sometimes you have to run away to see if someone is going to chase you."

"'You're an idiot,' Blake said disdainfully.
'Remember Blake,' Miranda quietly reminded. 'Use the feeling words. I feel...'
'I feel that you're an idiot.'"

"You were minding your own business and she tripped and fell and you caught her with your tongue?"

All in all:
I could go on and on about how much I am in love with this book and I plan on marrying the entire band (don't you judge me they're all so perfect but Luke is kind of off the market so I have to be content with the others. *Sigh* What is a girl to do? ;) ), but you really have to read it to understand completely. So go but it, not now RIGHT NOW! Fall in love like I did, get lost in the magic, an learn to fly
