Book Review: Fighting Fate (Endgame Series #4) by Leigh Ann Lunsford

Fighting Fate
 (Endgame Series #4)
by Leigh Ann Lunsford

Avery Michaels is an artist. She’s mastered the art of lying. Hiding. Sneaking around with the one boy she loves. Her role in the lives of her friends has always been the dependable one, level headed one . . . the one to turn to in times of trouble. A role she takes seriously— enough to demand her relationship stay in the shadows, so it won’t interfere with the lives of her friends and their needs.

Juggling college and a love nobody is aware of— is becoming more than she can handle. Just as the truth is set to be exposed, consequences be damned, it’s derailed and blown to hell.

Now, without the love that grounded her, fractured friendships, and an opportunity of a lifetime— will she take it or fight for her endgame? Her fate is in the hands of this one decision . . . she needs to choose wisely.

Favorite Quotes:

It’s just something I don’t want to focus on. I don’t have my head stuck in the sand, but if you stop looking at the beauty in things, all you’ll see is the ugly in everything and I don’t want that darkness. It’s something I don’t think I could escape from.

Roses are red. Violets are blue. I have five fingers. This middle one is for you.

I’m sure her dowry will bankrupt me, but at least I’ll get to live in peace when I offload this troublemaker.

Caden, she was awful. I was waiting for her head to spin and green vomit to spew. I think she broke a few fingers… And when I mentioned it, her words . . . and I quote ‘Quit bitching about a few fingers. My vagina is breaking.’ Can we agree to be kidless?

She’s stubborn . . . but I’m a jackass. I have longevity she hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting.

My Review:

I smirked and giggled-snorted through much of this highly entertaining, sizzlingly sensual, and snarkily amusing new-adult story.   Fighting Fate has become my favorite installment to date.  All the female characters in the Endgame series were written as feisty, stubborn, and quick-witted smart asses, and Avery was no exception.  They have each had their drama queen and heartbreak moments, although I had always assumed Avery to be rather timid and more eager to please than the rest.  But… Avery had a secret, she had always been a bit mysterious and not forthcoming, but – wow – I had no idea she was so deeply clandestine.   It was silly really that she had labored over keeping this secret, but she had successfully and covertly been purposely deceitful about her liaison for several years.

I enjoyed the raucous humor, lascivious banter, and witty quips the friends and families tossed at each other, as well as the continued storyline and shared timeline from previous installments.  But that ending had me stamping my little foot and muttering foul curses at this sly and clever word minx of an author – she left me hanging with a heinous cliffhanger.  I am outraged, yet hopelessly addicted.  I am on the hook, caught in her web, and must know what happens next.  I hope she is currently locked in her attic and banging out the next installment, or I may just have to purchase a little doll and some sharp pins…
