Book Review: SINdicate by Marie James

Title: SINdicate
BT Urruela Fanfiction Novel
Author: Marie James
Genre: Romantic Suspense
 Release Date: May 25, 2016

Blurb

BT Urruela is former military with scars from war that forever changed his life. He attends an acting class, is a personal trainer at an elite facility in Tampa, and is your typical warm-blooded male.

Life is pretty easy-going for BT... then Aviana Maguire catches his eye.

Aviana attends the same acting class as BT, but does her best to stay under the radar. She’s the product of a broken family and a less than desirable childhood. She’s riddled with emotional scars and has extreme trust issues with men and all relationships in general.

Life was hard for Aviana as she struggled daily to just stay afloat. Just when she thought life couldn’t get more difficult, she’s snatched away from her home as retribution for someone else’s mistakes.

Underworlds, debts, and an obsession for justice could change everything for them both.

BT may rescue the girl he tracked into the dark recesses of Las Vegas, but will she ever be the same?

Or will BT become so deeply involved in SIN, that he becomes the one needing to be rescued?

"As stupid as it sounds, I wonder what Batman would do in a situation like this."

“I'm a smartass, been this way my entire life.  Pretty said when I can't even turn it off in the face of adversity."

"It's like seventh-grade year before my boobs came in all over again.  You'd think grown women would be different than teenagers, but they're not."

"If you don't like Nutella we can't be friends.  Dealbreaker,"

My Review:

Silly me!  I did not realize until after I had finished the book that BT Urruela is an actual living entity. Duh!  I Googled him and have since decided I need to crawl out from under my rock a bit more often as holy hell - he is a fine and tasty looking full course meal, and the perfect muse for this high action and steamy story.  I had previously read and adored Ms. James' entire Hale series as well as Kincaid, so I reveled in the involvement of the Cerberus MC heroes aiding in the rescue, I wasn't expecting that and it was a welcome treat.  The story was taut with tension due to the conditions the characters were living in, yet the writing contained enough of Ms. James' own brand of snarky humor and steamy goodness to provide occasional respite from the angst.  The tale was intriguing, sensual, entertaining, and unique, quite similar to what I have since learned about the delectable Mr. Urruela himself.

Release Boost: Kincaid by Marie James

Title: Kincaid
Series: Cerberus MC #1
Author: Marie James
Genre: Romance/Contemporary/MC
 Release Date: March 10, 2016

Blurb

I am Emmalyn Mikaelson.

My husband, in a rage, hit me in front of the wrong person. Diego, or Kincaid to most, beat the hell out of him for it. I left with Diego anyway. Even though he could turn on me just like my husband did, I knew I had a better chance of survival with Diego. That was until I realized Kincaid could hurt me so much worse than my husband ever could. Physical pain pales in comparison to troubles of the heart.

I am Diego “Kincaid” Anderson.

She was a waitress at a bar in a bad situation. I brought her to my clubhouse because I knew her husband would kill her if I didn’t. Now she has my protection and that of the Cerberus MC. I never expected her to become something more to me. I was in more trouble than I’ve ever been in before, and that’s saying a lot considering I served eight years in the Marine Corp with Special Forces.

“Since you kissed and made up does that mean I get to stay at the clubhouse tonight?” I turn my attention from Em as she flits around the bar like she’s worked here her entire life, and look at Kid, who has a hopeful look on his face.

“I hate to burst your bubble, but so long as she’s at Doc’s, that’s where you will be.” He sighs, loudly. “What?”

“I just figured since you guys,” he does this weird side pump with his hand at his waist, “you know… I figured you’d be staying there with her.”

“I told you we took a nap.” I tilt my already warm beer to my lips and take a sip.

“Really? I thought that was code for getting laid or something.” Shadow laughs boisterously beside him.

Slapping Kid on the back, “Sorry Kid, if the Prez isn’t getting pussy, it looks like you’re not getting pussy either.”

I grin when Kid’s face falls and realizes that what Shadow just said is a pretty accurate analysis of the situation.

“If you’re having trouble sealing the deal, Prez, I can give you a few pointers.” The scrape of Shadow’s chair as he moves away from Kid makes my lip twitch in an almost smile.

Shadow’s reaction would be fitting almost any time one of the guys made some dumb ass remark about me not being able to handle any type of situation. Kid is lucky I was able to wrap my arms around Emmalyn for a few hours this afternoon, or his ass would be laid out on the nasty bar floor by now.

“First off,” I say putting my beer down on the table, “I don’t need any pointers from you.” I tap his chest with my finger. “Second, if Em was just some other piece of pussy to me, I’d have already had my one and done.” I lean in closer, so he knows how serious I am. “You don’t need to worry about my dick and what it’s doing or not doing with Emmalyn.”

He reaches up and rubs his chest where my finger hit it. “I’m not worried about your dick, Prez. I’m worried about mine.”

Shadow laughs again, and I can’t help but join in at the wimpy sound of Kid’s admission.

I hit the side button on my phone to check the time. “You have three hours until I take her home. If you need to get your dick wet, you better do it in a hurry. I expect you back at Doc’s no later than one-thirty.”

He jumps with an ear to ear grin, slaps me on the back, and whistles loudly to a blonde across the room. I watch as she downs her drink, grabs her purse, and heads to the front door.

“Thanks, Dad,” Kid whispers in my ear as he heads in the direction of his all-too-willing conquest of the night.

Two strangers trapped together in a blizzard.

One running from the past; one with no future.

Two destinies collide.

How can she trust another man?

How could he ever love again?

Will happenstance and ensuing sexual attraction be enough to heal two hearts enough that they can see in themselves what the other sees?

Favorite Quotes:

“Your scars, they make you beautifully flawed. They make you perfect.”

“Tears of happiness stream down my face as this man tells me exactly what I never knew that I needed to hear.”

“Never doubt that this is right where I want to be,”

“Promise me…Promise me I’m enough for you.”

My Review:

Love Me Like That is an angsty, heart squeezing, and poignant read with occasional hits of humor and generous helpings of volcanically hot sensuality.  My kindle was sizzling while two broken people find and ultimately save each other - literally and figuratively.  The characters are deeply flawed yet extremely likable, and the intriguing story line covers a cornucopia of modern day issues.  Marie James has earned a permanent spot on my favorites list.

Dinner was going great. We talked about future plans and vacations my parents want to take now that Dad is semi-retired. That all changed when dessert was being served, and Kegan got that look in his eye.

“So, KayKay? You told mom about the woman you have living with you yet?” Kegan says like it’s just another piece of everyday news to discuss at the table.

From the corner of my eye, I see both of my parents’ heads snap up and look at me. Center of attention, a position Kegan has always been better at than me. This is his payback for not spilling it about London when he asked. My mind is already thinking of things to do to get back at him; that’s if I don’t strangle him first.

I narrow my eyes at him before speaking. “I do have a house guest,” I respond with as much nonchalance as I can muster.

“Houseguest,” Kegan huffs.

“She’s in the guest room,” I reply and look at my mother. My explanation does nothing to keep the happiness off of her face. Seems I’m as transparent to her as I am to Kegan, and she didn’t show up at the house like he did and see her braless in a tank top and yoga pants.

“And where do you sleep?” Kegan says just before popping an overly large bite of pie into his mouth.

My jaw clenches uncontrollably, and my left eye ticks periodically with my pulse. Fucker.

“How did you meet?” My Aunt Diana asks thinking she’s saving me from Kegan’s questions when she’s actually only making it worse.

Kegan drops his fork on his plate loudly and sits backs far in his chair. “Oh, I love this part of the story.”

 Favorite Quotes:

Coming To Hale

“She’s now glaring at me like I drank the last of the wine and forgot to refrigerate another bottle, one of the seven deadly sins according to her.”

“I thought the kiss in the hallway was incredible.  This kiss.  This kiss was sell your first child just to get another perfect.”

“This man topless could end wars, everyone stopping their battle just to stare at his perfection.”

“I’ve never needed anyone as much as I need you, Lorali.  I can’t even form words to explain it.”

Begging For Hale

“This man’s going to make me lose my mind.  I’ve never been more sexually frustrated and satisfied at the same time.”

“He cracks a smile at me, ‘I ordered you the jambalaya.’  He says as I raise my water glass to my lips.  Loud enough for everyone at the table to hear, he continues, ‘I know how much you like the sausage.’”

“She has somehow gotten under my skin and has burrowed down making a place for herself in my life.  Deciding to be friends with benefits is possibly either the best or the worst decision we’ve ever made!”

“The hostility in her eyes is immediate, but she’s way too nice to say anything about it… She tucks his card into her back pocket, and I can see her looking at the one I have in my hands, knowing she want to tear it up so I’ve no access to him.  I giggle lightly and hand it to her.”

Hot As Hale

“My heart races uncontrollably when I even think about him.  When I see him, I can’t even speak.  The one time I did dial his number to place the first call to him made my hands shake so much I couldn’t even manage to hit the green circle on my phone.”

“I may need to pour this drink directly down the front of my pants.  It will take too long for my body to cool from ingesting it.”

To Hale And Back:

“She was the queen of bean flicking before she met Ian.”

“It’s then that I realized that I would follow this man through the gates of hell if he even hinted that he wanted me there.”

“And I thought it couldn’t get any better.  Married sex is awesome!”

My Review:

Coming to Hale was my introduction to Marie James and she lured me in with her sweet couple and fresh and sexy style.  I was such a sucker for expecting the subsequent books to be similar, as they were not.  While the same characters continued on throughout the four books - and I enjoyed each in turn, the following books were more angsty, but also held more mystery and sensuality.  Begging For Hale had atomically hot sensual scenes.  Hot as Hale was a sweet and sexy story with a bit of suspense thrown in to the mix.  Detective Perez was the best kind of BBF as he was thoughtful, sweet, supportive, and insightful, and he cooks in every room.

To Hale and Back started off as mostly sunshine and rainbows, as the three couples settled into their lives together and started planning their futures and continuing their careers.  With 1026 total pages read for this review, I expected a sweet and sexy wrap up as we cruised to the completion to this sensual series, but no… Marie James had a dark and bumpy ride planned for one of the couples.  Their reactions to the situation became rather uncomfortable and precarious, and I wasn’t sure their journey was one they could return from intact, nor was I certain they should have - considering the behaviors displayed.  Written in multiple POV, which I enjoyed, the story tied together well and held my attention, despite the occasional cringing.  No spoilers here, but although it was hard getting there, the ending did bring a satisfying conclusion to the series.
