Book Review, Giveaway: Pink Bits by JB Heller

PINK BITS
by JB Heller

Did you know the medical term for a butt crack is intergluteal cleft?

My name is Reagan, and spouting random facts like this one at inopportune moments is my affliction. I’m chronically awkward, socially inept and completely lack a filter. Believe it or not, men do not find these attractive traits.

When my sexy-as-sin neighbour barges into my apartment at the arse crack of dawn, everything changes. For some strange reason, my brand of crazy doesn’t send him running for the hills. Instead, he settles in for a nap on my couch…

Oh, and did I mention he was completely naked?

Unless your biological mother has changed her mind about removing my testicles with her bare hands. Then she’d be welcome to join us as well.

I’m SOOO sorry but I have to cancel tonight. I’m surfin’ the crimson wave and Mother Nature is being an extra cruel bitch this month. I feel like a slasher film is being enacted inside my uterus.

Bleed out? That’s a little dramatic. You’re going to need stitches, not a funeral director.

My Review:

Reading this delightful book was pure fun, smirks and giggle-snorts abounded, and there may even have been a bit of a situation of spewed Diet Dew during an unfortunately inconvenient second when my throat couldn’t contain a giggle and swallow at the same time.  I didn’t even mind as I was so besotted with this cleverly written tale and deliciously quirky couple.  Reagan was a totally filterless and a drama llama who claimed to suffer from “a debilitating case of awkwardness.” She was brimming with a mountain of peculiar quirks and a tendency to blurt out oddly comedic and hysterically inappropriate trivia and random facts.  I coveted their stamina as much as her amusingly witty collection of coffee mugs.  Colorful characters and nimble levity flowed through each page and my only regret was that the story had to end.  I would greatly enjoy knowing these enticing characters and spending time with them every day; they were naughty good fun.

Book Review: Worth The Risk by JB Heller

Worth the Risk
by J.B. Heller

It was meant to be a one-time thing. One night they could let go of the restrictive chains their everyday lives bound them in.

When a new client file turns out to belong to the woman Abe slept with three months ago, he does something he has never done before. He goes against company policy, one he created, and places himself on the case as her full-time bodyguard.

It’s not bad enough her father’s political aspirations have landed Kalista in hot water, she’s about to have a twenty-four/seven shadow too. Far from happy about the added protection, she hates the idea of constantly being watched. But then she meets her new bodyguard.

Now that Abe has Kalista so close again he knows he wants to keep her in his life. When the threats against her escalate, he’s forced to act. But will his new-found attachment to Kalista make him a liability or their greatest asset?

I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t appreciate me doing the sprinkler in bed. You’d come out the other side with some serious injuries.

His words are lost on me as I contemplate murdering him with a pair of my Jimmy Choos displayed on the shelf behind him. But I decide against it. I don’t want to hurt my Jimmys.

I get it, but you have to stop looking at me the way you do. It’s distracting and frankly, I’ve already had to replace the batteries in my vibrator this week. At this rate, I’ll need to buy shares in Duracell.

‘So, how old are you exactly? Am I sleeping with an older man?’ She gasps theatrically. ‘Are you a cradle snatcher, Mr. Jamieson?’

My Review:

Oh these sexy, dirty talking, and bossy alpha men of JB Heller, they are such a kick to read.  I revel in her naughty irreverent humor and amusing observations.  The characters engage in amusing and creatively filthy banter and name calling that I’ve never heard before.  I had a harder time appreciating the character of Kalista as she was initially prickly, cold, snobbish, over-indulged, and had a hair-trigger temper with a tendency for over-reaction.  But my favorite of this story was the feisty pixie known as Ellie, she intrigued me and I’m hoping Ms. Heller will be indulging us with her story soon.

Review, Giveaway: MOMENTS OF CLARITY - Moments series #2 by JB Heller

With the events of one night, the clarity with which I once saw my life vanished.

MOMENTS OF CLARITY
Moments Series #2
JB Heller

Blessed.

That was me.

In every way that mattered anyway. I had a close, loving relationship with my parents, my older brother was my hero, and with graduation right around the corner, I was on the verge of turning my love of photography into a career.

Then there was Carter, surprisingly he turned out to be the yin to my yang. Where I was alternative, slightly nerdy and a whole lot awkward, Carter was smooth, popular and confidant. Yet somehow, we fit.

Or so I thought.

With the events of one night, the clarity with which I once saw my life vanished. Leaving me completely unprepared for the reality I would now have to face and the choices that accompanied it.

Favorite Quotes:

The best seduction technique I have at my disposal is my extreme awkwardness. Who needs flirty when you’ve got awkward, right?

It’s hilarious. Mr. Perfect wants Ms. Awkward. It’s comedy gold. I mean, seriously, how is that going to work? Are you even capable of carrying on a conversation with a hot guy without divulging something horrifically embarrassing, or rambling about weird facts that only you care about?

So what, you’re getting into matchmaking now? Running the paper doesn’t tickle your pickle anymore so you thought you’d dip your toes in Cupid’s pool?

‘Mumma, Papa, this is Carter,’ she says, while gesturing over her shoulder with her thumb to me, ‘He’s my super hot boyfriend with a spectacular arse.’  I choke on the air I’m breathing, coughing and trying not to laugh. Then I hear a voice similar to Chance’s, but older, more sophisticated, say, ‘Well, turn around then, show us the goods.’

My Review:

Moments of Clarity was populated by unique and quirky characters, ah, my favorite kind.  I enjoyed their amusing descriptions, interplay, steamy chemistry, odd fashion sense, and witty banter.  Then the family secrets blew open and damn if it wasn’t angst by the bucket – a fest of misery and emotional tension, which is just not my favorite cup or tea.  I cringed, winced, flinched, sighed but stayed the course, as I trusted the author to circle back around and make it worth the agony.  And, thankfully, she did.

WESTON
I have a problem.
A big freaking problem.
Her name is Tory Dixon.
I’ve been in love with her since I was 17.
The problem you ask? She’s kinda my best friends mum.

VICTORIA
I have a six foot, three inch's tall, 22-year-old, problem.
His name is Weston Banks.
I’ve been pretending he doesn’t have feelings for me for the last six years.
You see, fourteen years ago, I became my nephew's guardian.
And Weston, well, he's my nephew's best friend.
Which makes him ten years my junior and oh so deliciously complicated.

Favorite Quotes:

Weston had brought a girl called Candy, and she was as dumb as her named sounded.  She'd looked like a stunned mullet when Finn had swept Nixie up in his arms and planted a kiss on her lips.

I'm going to need your full name, phone number, criminal record and employment status before I allow you to date my mum.

... the difference is I actually have a sex life, you don't.  If it's battery operated, it doesn't count.

Why was she smiling like that?  It was a smile I'd never seen her wear before, and I hoped I never would.  It was a cross between the crazed smile of The Joker and the creepy one of the Cheshire Cat.

My Review:

It first glance, the storyline sounds taboo - but it really isn't, the situation is indeed a bit complicated and not as it seems.  It is, in fact, a rather sweet, slow burn, and angsty love story, with a few bits of naughty along the way to keep us on edge until the heat is finally cranked up to atomic radiation levels.  JB Heller has mastered the skill of forcing the reader to take a second look at our misperceptions, giving us just cause to open our minds or rethink an anti-hero or stereotype.  I just adore that.  I also adore her clever humor, feisty characters, observant insights, sizzling sensual scenes, and witty banter.  She has mad skills.

Book Review: Pure Attraction by JB Heller

Pure Attraction

by JB Heller

Mia Lynn had accepted her life for what it was. It was better than what her mother told her she deserved, so she counted herself lucky. Until the day she found out she was pregnant.

Guilt had been Kai Phillip's constant companion most of his life. It was a part of him, forcibly fine-tuning his protective instincts, moulding him into the man he had become.

When their fates collide, emotions run high, hormones go haywire, hearts are put on the line and once again Kai is forced to face his demons when Mia’s old life comes to find her.

Favorite Quotes:

“I felt like I’d been uprooted and teleported to an alternate universe.  This whole situation was so far from anything I’d ever known or even heard of.  I mean really, who took in homeless pregnant women, fed them delicious hot chips, babysat children that weren’t even their own and joked about nailing their friend’s wife?”

“I was all over him like a fat kid on a triple choc cupcake.  He started reading in his office or the car to try hide from me.”

I’ve been shopping with Ivy a million times before.  This is easy compared to going with her. I just grabbed whatever I wanted.  I didn’t have to stand around discussing the difference between a bath towel and a bath sheet for half a fucking hour before picking one.”

“The thing with tragedy is it rarely happens when you’re ready for it, or when you’re expecting it.  No, it sneaks up like a thief in the night, takes what you hold dear, and rips it from you with no regret and no remorse.  It leaves only grief, fear, and guilt in its wake.”

My Review:

J.B. Heller is an instant one-click purchase for me.  No thought required – unless of course she changed genres to YA zombie hunting vampires… that I would need to think about.  But I adore her sassy and steamy stories, they are unfailingly entertaining, just the right length, deliciously steamy, humorous while also highly emotive and squeezing my heart, and jam packed with quirky smart mouthed characters.  I also I love learning new words/Aussie terms and naughty word combinations such as wank stain, and dag.  Such fun.  Pure Attraction has two broken social isolates finding each other through an act of kindness, and ultimately saving each other emotionally, mentally, and physically.  And believe me when I say the sexy bits sizzled and fogged up my kindle.  I required a second glass of wine just to cool down, sipped slowly of course.  More please!

My Review:

This was my first JB Heller read, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. After reading her work, I started chasing her like a fan girl.  This gal can write!  I had to remember that Aussies spell differently than Americans, and use /s/ when I expect to see a /z/, but I soon stopped noticing.  Undeniable Attraction is funny and steamy, I didn’t want to put it down.  I smiled and chuckled between fanning myself.  There is considerable humor, suspense, steamy bits and sizzle between these smart and sassy characters.  The dialog is realistic and snappy, what fun!  More please.
