Book Review: Punishing Me - Shaft On Tour, Book #6 by Cat Mason

Punishing Me, Shaft On Tour, Book 6
By Cat Mason
  Release Date: April 2, 2016

Book Blurb

Being the new bassist for Shaft is a dream come true for Ireland Tyler. Sold out stadiums and screaming fans are just bonuses to being able to play music she loves. The only downside is it brings her face to face with a blast from her past and her only regret: Dominick Bradford.

The second in command of security for the band may go by Mack now, but all Ireland sees is the boy who used her and left her broken hearted when they were just seventeen years old. Could this be her chance at revenge after all these years, or will it cause old feelings to rise to the surface and cost more than she is prepared to give?

Mack has been the number two and the butt of most jokes for as long as he can remember. When he is suddenly thrust into the top dog position he is determined to prove he has what it takes to run the security team during the last leg of the tour.

The only thing he didn’t count on was Ireland Tyler.

The wild and crazy bassist is far from the sweet and naïve girl he met all those years ago and it has him wondering how well he really knew her at all. Will Mack be able to resist her and do his job, or will he be consumed by the flames and be the one left wanting more this time?

Favorite Quotes:

“This is one of those moments the movies and books won’t be telling you about.  They don’t tell you about the sharp stings of rejection and betrayal after you have laid your heart bare to someone who only pretended to care about you to get in your pants.  Another thing they don’t mention is that, just like your first kiss and first love, you’ll never forget your first heartbreak.”

“That’s the thing about music.  It has the power to transport you to the place you were when you first heard that song.  Your senses tie to that bar, that lyrical genius, catchy tune, or even annoying as hell jingle on television, and you can’t forget it even if you tried.”

“Dominick has always had a way with getting under my skin.  I like to compare him to a rash one would get from a shady toilet seat.  He leaves me irritated and desperate for a shower.”

“Cross my heart and hope for fries,”

“If your lippers had zippers, I could shut you up,”

“Now, you want to talk?  Hmm, I wonder if Satan has mittens for when Hell freezes over.”

My Review:

Punishing Me brings the story full circle with the highly successful band having achieved success and made the big time, with all band members and most of their inner circle having found their HEA and hitting their stride.  All seems under control until a new member is added to the mix, one who appears destined to stir up more chaos and scandal than even Hunter’s early days had provided.  Ireland fits the band’s sound but is a saucy, sassy, and prickly hellion that just also happened to have an unfortunate teen-aged history with the group’s perennial screw up and butt of most of their jokes. The plot swings on a pendulum of humorous to angsty, but is unfailingly entertaining and as spicy as Henry’s favorite hot sauce.  After reading all six books in this series consecutively this week, I am going to miss Ms. Mason and her Shafters like a departed family member.

Book Review: Fighting Me - Shaft On Tour #5 by Cat Mason

 Fighting Me

 Shaft On Tour #5

by Cat Mason

Henry Richardson is the man in the shadows. He’s the calm and cool protector that everyone relies on to restore order among the chaos that is Shaft.

After having his heart broken, not once, but twice, Henry is determined that it’s safer for everyone involved that he remain on the sidelines. He is content to hide behind his trademark shades and watch as his adopted family thrive in the limelight. When the live-in nanny for Shaft quits with no notice just before a much needed vacation, her replacement is nothing like Big Man expected.

Rae Sloan is sassy and independent. She loves kids; working at the daycare center inside Ironsound Records was her dream job until she was offered something more.
A live-in position with one of the hottest bands in the country.

When Henry and Rae collide, the tension is through the roof. Neither one of them are emotionally available, but what happens when those layers you have to protect yourself are suddenly stripped away? When push comes to shove, Henry will have to make a choice that will change his life forever. Can Henry find love, or will he lose everything while fighting the demons within himself?

Favorite Quotes:

“X-rated Scrabble around here is serious business.  One wrong play, and it can turn into pandemonium.”

“Hunter’s damn near foaming at the mouth watching me plate up the last slices.  If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he was rabid.”

“I get that I said something that I shouldn’t have, but we all have dark pieces in our pasts, Henry.  If not, the light wouldn’t be worth fighting for.”

“Don’t try to understand Bitchenese… One false translation is all it takes for all hell to break loose.”

“‘He’s your beau?’  she asks, waggling her brows suggestively.  ‘Well you should’ve said somethin’ before I got my hopes up.  I thought you brought me home a hunk of the Florida Keys.  You really shouldn’t disappoint an old woman like that, Rae Marie.  If we weren’t in front of the stud here I’d take my spoon to your ass.”

“Placing her glass of chocolate milk back on the table, she scrunches up her nose.  ‘If a boy even breathes on me, I scream and tell him that my daddy will whoop his ass.’”

“Sitting back on her walker, Iva rests her elbows on the handles.  ‘I don’t know what happened, and for your sake, Hunk, I hope it wasn’t your doing. I’m old.  My back and legs hurt, so I can’t kick your ass, but I’ll shoot it if you hold still enough,’ she chuckles.”

My Review:

I am so grooving on this series, Book 5 in this series and Ms. Mason just keeps getting better as a writer.  The plot was well paced and entertaining, the humor bubbled, and the story line continued the seductive and addicting lure established in the previous volumes.  The sensuality is beyond hawt!  In addition, I was overjoyed to see the Big Man get his chance at a HEA.  One more book to go.

Book Review: Shafting The Halls - Shaft On Tour #4 by Cat Mason

 Shafting The Halls

 Shaft On Tour #4

by Cat Mason

Catch up with everyone from Shaft on Tour as they celebrate the holidays. Don't miss out on baking with the girls, shopping with the guys, the couples gift exchange, or the Christmas party at Ironsound Records where someone loses a bet and has to dress up as Dirty Santa.

This book is not a full length novel and is intended for ages 18 and up since it contains sexual situations and adult content.

My Rating:

Favorite Quotes:

“Mack yells over the energy drink fueled Mommy’s Gone Wild episode going on before me… I wince as Gray is being trampled to the ground by more shoppers piling through the doors…”

“A lot of women scream, heading straight for me, their brawling momentarily forgotten.  With as much fighting as there was to get in the door, it has to be said I am disappointed no one was trampled to get to me.  I am a way better toy.  Plus, all my moving parts work, just saying.”

“My goal in life is to make you feel like the only women in the world, my Wildflower, because you’re the only one I see.  You’ve given me everything I never thought I’d have.”

My Review:

One after the end of the previous book, this short and steamy novella provides a glimpse of each member of the group with a seven person POV narration.  After an eventful and humorous shopping mission that finds the men fighting a fevered mob of mommy’s all after the season’s most highly prized toy for Hunter’s daughter, we are given a peak at the more personal and intimate presents the couple share with each other.  Santa need not tend to their tree and would certainly be red cheeked if he happened to venture in.

Favorite Quotes:

“It’s lust, pure and simple, but she’s desperate to see his pierced equipment.  According to him, there’s more metal than flesh in his pants and Chase is desperate to see his transformer in action.”

“She was a damn butt pirate; all trying to plunder my booty!”

“The universe is in perfect balance with itself; now the bacon and booze shall be plentiful, says the almighty shaft.”

“Hunter shrugs, ‘I’m studying to be a porn star medic.’  His grin widens, ‘I will prep the pussy, tending to their every need.  In a recession, the best idea is to have a back-up plan.  So, if necessary, I can be a jack of all trades.’”

“‘…don’t go to the dark side Mack.’  Aiden teases dramatically, ‘It’s not worth it.  Hunter is a weapon of mass corruption.’”

My Review:

Written in a dual POV, Facing Me is a more angsty read than Book 1 Escaping Me, although we can always count on Hunter for comic relief.  It is also considerably more erotic due to the bit of kink that the featured couple enjoys.  This story was so sensual my glasses fogged up, which required an occasionally break to wipe my specs (and my fevered brow) while I also attempted to catch my ragged breath.  Packed with romantic and family drama, there is also a fair amount of sabotage, assaults, attacks, and a bit a gunfire.  Exciting and stressful times for the fledgling band under a surprising management change.  I am soaking this series up - onward to book 3!

Book Review: Chasing Me - Shaft On Tour #3 by Cat Mason

Chasing Me
 Shaft On Tour #3

by Cat Mason

Being the flashy frontman definitely has its perks and Hunter Chesterfield is infamous for exploiting them all shamelessly. When he isn't busy commanding the stage or wooing every groupie in sight, he's living for the three B’s: Bitches, Booze, and Bacon. He has it all, or so he thought.

Chase Hanlon can hold her own with any man. Independent and feisty as hell, she was the perfect tiny package of dynamite to shatter everything Hunter thought he knew. Women have always been disposable to Hunter, Frisbees to toss away once the fun was over. There has never been a repeat rear-ender, until Chase and something about his smart mouthed, fiery Tiger Lily has him rethinking everything.

When he comes face to face with his past, will Hunter grab onto the things he knows he needs to be complete or will he push it all away and chase after the empty thrills of fame he hides behind to numb the loneliness?

Favorite Quotes:

“I’ll never come close to expressing the depth of what I feel for you, baby, but I’ll spend the rest of my life givin’ it all I got if you’ll let me.”

“‘I got a new shirt to go with him.’  Hunter turns in his seat so that I can read ‘Are you looking at my wiener?’ written across his chest with a picture of a dachshund.”

“Okay, sure.  You left an ‘Out of Order’ sign on her forehead.  Angels sang and World Peace is attainable all because you made her scream.  Happy now?”

“All that’s left for you to take is my name; you already have my heart.”

My Review:

The rock band’s star is on the rise and so is their media attention – which also brings out the uglies and crazies.  The happiness factor is up as well in this installment as the couples are secure, settling in, and nesting.  However, do not let yourself get too comfy cozy, as there is always drama with hard rockers with a side order of betrayal. Expect constant streams of profanity, clever banter, fun humor, shocking surprises, and lots of erotic sensuality.  It is a busy group and the story and characters are evolving at a steady pace.  I find Ms. Mason’s characters to be complex and intriguing, and find myself frequently smirking at her clever humor.

Book Review: Escaping Me by Cat Mason

 Escaping Me

by Cat Mason

Daisy Shayne has a plan for everything. Her life has been planned out down to the smallest detail since she was a child. With her list nearly complete, she decides to tour the country with her fiancé, Landon, and his brother’s band, Shaft.

Grayson Cole has spent his entire life shielding himself from letting people get too close. Moving from city to city left no room for any attachments. Entirely focused on bringing the band into the mainstream, Gray devoted his whole heart to writing lyrics and rocking the stage night after night.
Until one night changed everything.

Temptation, betrayal, and lies are all mixed with booze, tattoos, sex, laughs, and love as Shaft commands stage after stage. With her life’s plan unravelling before her eyes, Daisy finds herself having to make choices that will alter everything she once knew. Can she stop hiding behind a list and come to terms with what she really wants in life or will she be left in the rubble of her own consequences?

***This book is not a normal romance. Things happen fast and with no*** regret. Rockers and all.

There are M/F scenes of course but there is M/F/M, hints of M/F/F, possibly a little M/M and plenty of vibrator discussion.

Favorite Quotes:

“I don’t see anyone with you, Wildflower.  You shouldn’t be left alone in here, someone could come along and pluck your petals,”

“You two are so damn hot together, I swear they’ll be fining you for contributing to Global Warming.”

“He’s trashed.  One too many rounds with Stoli.  Told that stupid bastard you never win when you take on a Russian.”

“You realize you’re going to get random pussy at a truck stop, right? ... That’s not groupie sleaze, Cunter.  That’s like throwin’ a Twinkie down a hallway, … She walks like a gun slinger at high noon."

My Review:

Escaping Me sets this series off with a bang with a highly eventful and fast moving story line, quirky characters, highly erotic sensual scenes, and shocking and eye popping plot twists and surprises.  Although the angst was ready made and built into the story from page one – so sneaky – I enjoyed the humor, banter, teasing, and flippant manner in which the band members treated each other.  This small group of sexy, talented, inked, and intimately pierced rockers is on the cusp of stardom while touring as an opening act, and living in tight quarters as they tour the country on a bus.  They cannot speak without expletives, whether they are joking, happy, or angry, and there are plenty of those emotions to work through.  The sensual scenes are molten lava hot; and the practical jokes, challenges, and bets are highly entertaining.  Ms. Mason certainly knows how to maintain the drama and intrigue while the story line goes in several directions before reconnecting again.  I am eager to make my way through the entire series – luckily, they are all waiting for me on my beloved kindle.

Book Review: Solitude by Cat Mason

Title: Solitude, Artistic Pricks, #3
By: Cat Mason
Release Date: November 9, 2015
 Tour Host: DRC Promotions

Synopsis

“The most powerful spark is the one that can reignite the fire that has long gone out.”
After losing his fiancé, Mitchell Taylor abandoned everything that reminded him of her and retreated home to Las Vegas, Nevada. Now his life consists of three things: drowning his pain in the bottom of a vodka bottle, tattooing bodies in the shop he co-owns with his best friend and pissing off their office manager, Shelby. Not only does she infuriate him by challenging everything he does, but fighting with her pushes back the ghosts that haunt him.
Taking control of her future at a young age, Shelby Winston never let anyone or anything get to her. Until now. Mitch is unpredictable. One minute he is drunk and making her want to pull her hair out, the next he is doing something crazy like saving her life.
While every argument between the two has everyone around them waiting for bloodshed, something else is bubbling beneath the surface. There’s no going back once you cross that line, and once the tension erupts into something else, it could change everything forever.

My Rating:

Favorite Quotes:

“I have no memories, or even a photograph, of the woman I not so lovingly refer to as my incubator.”

“Chicks before the Pricks and all that.  Besides, you’re not a secretary, Shel, you’re a badass office Pricktator.”

“I clench the fork in my hand like a fucking shank.  Visions of stabbing him like a prison inmate who stole my pie enter my head.”

“A monthly punctuation survival kit… The word period just isn’t enough to describe the horrific things that happen to a woman’s body during that time.  It’s all too clear that a man coined that term.  Sure, it ends your good time for a few days a month, so it can’t be a comma or anything like that… I like to view our monthly curse as more of an exclamation point.  Because the first sentences out of a woman’s mouth when she gets hers ends in one.”

“I faked it.  Clenching and moaning at all the right times, I stroked his ego like he was going off to war while secretly shaking my head in disbelief at the absolute waste of snake.”

“I decide to shower since I look like a circus clown who drove a convertible through a car wash.  I can’t help laughing at myself when I look in the mirror.  My makeup has streaked down my face so badly that I wouldn’t be shocked if my nipples weren’t rocking my eyeliner and lip gloss.”

“I know exactly what this is.  It’s a bitchervention.”

“I realize now why there were pieces of Mitch’s puzzle that were missing.  It’s because it is where I fit, where the parts of us belong in his life that we will put together as a couple.”

My Review:

Solitude had me either barking, snorting, or whimpering as I read.  Ms. Mason uses her craft to elicit every type of emotion.  While poor Mitch is a miserable husk of his former self through much of the story, the dialog, snark, and clever banter created a near permanent smirk on my face.  I adored Shelby, she is a feisty spitfire and full of spunk and clever wit.  She challenged and sparred with Mitch who had all but shut down in his downward spiral of grief.  Their story and path was not an easy one as they are both stubborn and passionate people who basically cannot speak without profanity and invectives, even with their endearments.  The writing was absorbing and well-paced, the story was entertaining, heartbreaking, and humorous – does that sound contradicting?  Well, it was, and it worked, and I loved it and wanted more.  Cat Mason has a new fan-girl.
