I am completely overwhelmed. My core is on fire and I want so much to kiss him, to touch him. I feel sparks of electricity shoot through every fiber in my body and every nerve ending is screaming for release. I want his hands on me, all over me.

“Amare?”

I put my hands on his chest and push him away. He’s too close, making it hard to form a single thought. I take two steps to the side to put some distance between us so I can speak like a human, not a lust induced zombie. “Yes, they towed my car and it’s in their lot. I haven’t really spoken to them about it yet. I kind of fell asleep on them…”

His face clouds over and he says, “You kind of fell asleep on them? What. Does. That. Mean?” He pauses between each word and growls them at me.

“Jonas took me to see Doc Jordan and he gave me something for the pain, but because I hadn’t slept in days it made me sleepy. I think he ended up carrying me to their clubhouse.” I realize how all this must sound. If someone told me that exact same story, I would be thinking the worst.

“Did they touch you, Amare?” he growls at me, his eyes blazing with anger.

“No, no, no! In fact, Jonas put a guard on my door so no one would go near me. Not that they would. I was safe, Sal.” Something crosses his face and he stares at me so intently that I look away and stare at the floor. He moves back into my space and lifts my head up. “Thank you for getting me coffee. Let’s go have breakfast and I’m buying. I think I shall keep you in my sights to make sure nothing else happens to you. I have never met a woman who allows herself to get into so many dangerous situations, in such a short space in time. You, my Amare, are a handful.” He moves away from me and does up his shirt, then grabs his jacket. He opens the door to his room and extends his arm. “Shall we?” he asks, offering me a smile that reveals his dimple. My core clenches again and I have to fight the urge to throw myself at him.

My Review:

I can boldly declare that I have spent my week with Kemmie Michaels and 791 pages of her sexy men.  Ledger is my favorite as he is a sweet, tender, loving protector.  Then came Mason, who was is smart, yet brash and impulsive, but out for justice and wanting to do the right thing.  And ending with Callen who is grieving and out for vengeance and revenge, and finds betrayal.  Callen’s story is the heaviest read of the three as it is flavored with melancholy and regret.  All three of these stories are based on an obsession and heightened sense of duty and justice.  They do what some might consider awful acts, but do so for a good reason and a big heart.  This has been my first Kemmie experience and I found all three books to be well-written, insightful, entertaining, and deliciously steamy.  With her tactical knowledge, I believe I would be afraid to be on her bad side if I happened to live nearby.   I am anxious to see what happens in the next book.

Mother of Two Boys...
My husband and I have been married for 17 years and are blessed with two amazing young men. They are 10 and 12 right now, and both are on very different parts of the autism spectrum. I’ve learned so much being their mom and I feel pretty lucky to have become part of a community of loving, understanding people.

If you’d like to meet my oldest son, watch Big Bang Theory and shake hands with Sheldon. Those two are so similar, straight down to the fake laugh when they recognize something is funny.

My youngest cannot be explained. He’s more of an experience, and a joyful one at that.

Romance Novelist...
I’ve always loved to write. I’ve written for newspapers and magazines, also a host of personal projects. Then in December of 2012 I was reading on my first Kindle, gobbling up romances left and right. That’s when I fell in love with Ethan Blackstone, by the way.

I was inspired to sit down and write. Less than one year later I’ve published three books, written another and its sequel novella, and started on two more. Another series popped into my head, as well. Now as of August of 2014, I’m on the verge of publishing book six, with at least five started or specifically planned. My Review:

 

The plot of Mason starts near the end of the story of Ledger, and was an active adventure romance chocked full of corrupt government officials, dirty cops, personal assault, rape, property damage, harassment, espionage, and murder.  Mason is not a sweet and tender man like Ledger, although he is highly skilled, of genius intelligence, and loves his woman just as fiercely.  Lucky for him, he finds a fierce woman to love (Sophia), who tells him not to use endearments such as calling her baby, or to dare tell her she is special.  One of my favorite lines in the book, which Mason uses to tease Sophie with is, “Baby, you are so special.”   Mason and Sophia’s love story is my favorite type, they are not fighting each other, but pulling together and finding each other in the process.  The conflict in the story is not with each other but in righting a wrong, and I totally admire that trope.  The writing and story-line are intriguing, well plotted, and smart.  Callen is up next, and I am ready for the challenge.

My Review:

I am in total fan-girl mode after reading J.D. Hollyfield’s latest masterpiece.  She had mad skills and I plan to stalk her hard and soak up every word she even plans to write down in the future.  I had read Life Next Door, and Life in a Rut, Love Not Included, and loved every word.  Her humor and wit are unfailingly entertaining, and her insightful writing is cunningly clever.  The main character of this delightful piece is Chrissy, who has reinvented herself shortly after she graduated high school, by fleeing a bad home-life with an alcoholic mother, and never looking back. Six years later she has become a rich, successful, snobbish, selfish, party-girl, diva who has had no contact with anyone in her family in over four years.  Her feelings for others are as shallow as her life has become, and her response when distraught or when people become problematic - is to be a snarky bitch, cause a bit of destruction, and then to flee.  An emergency forces her to return to her former home town, where she discovers her first love (the one she left behind, and of course the most perfect and beautiful man in the world) still residing there, which prompts a series of startling epiphanies and self-examination.  Chrissy lives heavily in her head and I was enthralled with her memories and thought processes, and delighted by her entertaining and humorous summations of her self-discoveries.  Yet despite her spunk and increasing discomfort with her past and what she has become, she continues to dither and cannot seem to act on her self-revelations.  Which, although it doesn’t follow the formula for romantic fiction, is actually true to life, as people don’t turn around over-night.  I adore Ms. Hollyfield’s characters, they are complicated, smart, and witty, and more than a little broken.  I adored this book and was sad for it to end as I wanted more, but I am greedy like that.

Cassie was glad Luke had decided to drive back because her hands were shaking with a mixture of excitement and nerves. They tried to make light conversation, but the sexual tension between them was too much to sustain a topic.

They walked into her kitchen together; the mounting anticipation was palpable. Cassie didn’t realize she was hanging onto the doorknob until Luke gave her a curious look.

“We don’t have to do this if you’re not ready, Cassie,” he said gently.

She’d felt brave in the restaurant and excited on the drive, but now, back at her place, she was nervous. “I am. At least I think I am. It’s just been a long time.”

He caressed the side of her neck lightly with one hand, and she sucked in an audible breath. “How long?”

She opened one eye and peered up at him to assess his reaction. His expression was difficult to discern. “You don’t remember?”

Tenderly, Luke turned Cassie’s face back toward his. “Don’t hide from me, Cassie. You can tell me anything.”

Cassie blinked back tears. Unless I tell you I may be pregnant. I can guarantee that would be a mood breaker. “Why am I so nervous? It’s not like I’m a virgin.”

He unbuttoned his coat, lifted her hand, and placed it on his chest above his heart. “You’re not my first either, Cassie, but can you feel that? My heart is beating like I just finished a sprint. Do you know why? Because unlike every other time, this feels different—like I’ve been waiting my whole life for this moment.”

Cassie’s hand shook against his chest. His heart, like hers, was indeed beating a wild dance. “We barely know each other.”

His consideration for her almost brought her to tears. She was used to people who took from her. Even if he left before she woke in the morning, she wouldn’t regret choosing to be with him.
